Homeowners or people looking to buy a house have the chance to take advantage of some of the lowest mortgage rates in history.
But because of the different factors that banks and other lending institutions take into consideration, these rates may be out of reach to many people.
The mortgage giant Freddie Mac said Thursday the average rate on the typical 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.98 percent, down from 4.74 percent a year ago.
Fifteen-year fixed rate mortgages averaged 3.24 percent, down from 4.05 percent the previous year.

Avalon, NJ - Volunteers are invited to help plant dune grass on Saturday, April 17th, 2010. Everyone is welcome to participate in this important project.
Volunteers should report to the Avalon Community Hall at 30th Street and Avalon Avenue at 8:30am, where donuts and coffee will be served. A brief demonstration on planting will be given. Special designed tools for planting the dune grass will be provided. All volunteers will then be transported to the planting sites by Avalon Borough trucks. A complimentary lunch will be served at Noon at Avalon Community Hall. If there is still planting that has not been accomplished, planting will resume after lunch for those who can continue to plant dune…
2009 Greater Avalon Fishing Tournament

Recently announced are the plans for the 2009 Greater Avalon Fishing Tournament. The tournament runs all year long in Avalon. Entry forms are available at local marinas throughout Avalon. You will need a weight-master’s signature on the card. After receiving the signature the card can be returned to the Avalon mayor’s office at Avalon Borough Hall, 3100 Dune Drive.
The fishing tournament will be providing plaques for the winners of the 10 categories. For more information on the 2009 Greater Avalon Fishing Tournament, contact Sue Keen at 967-5924.
