Homeowners or people looking to buy a house have the chance to take advantage of some of the lowest mortgage rates in history.

But because of the different factors that banks and other lending institutions take into consideration, these rates may be out of reach to many people.

 

The mortgage giant Freddie Mac said Thursday the average rate on the typical 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.98 percent, down from 4.74 percent a year ago.

 

Fifteen-year fixed rate mortgages averaged 3.24 percent, down from 4.05 percent the previous year.

Stone Harbor Looking into Expanding Liquor License Zone

As many towns are facing the economic realitites of a slowed tax base, they must look at new ways to increase revenue.  Some local business owners are asking the Stone Harbor Council to approve changing the current liquor license zone.  The businesses feel that transferring a license out of the zone, would allow for increased growth to Stone Harbor.  I hope it works out for them, anyone looking to open a business to build the tourism in an area like Stone Harbor should be encouraged.

Stone Harbor Point in Cape May County has some of the most beautiful scenery in southern New Jersey, combining ocean and bay shores, dunes, scrub forest and an ever changing expanse of beach.

Even if it was not among the most critical wildlife habitats in the region, it would draw visitors for the views, fishing, fresh and salty air, and serenity.

Snow Owls in Stone Harbor and Cape May County

     This year according to the Press of Atlantic City has been a great year to spot snow owls along the Jersey coast.  The owls which sport a beautiful white coat is an intermitten visitor to New Jersey and Cape May County.  These beautiful birds of prey, are an amazing sight to behold on the beach or skies.   Stone Harbor Point has had a number of sightings of these beautiful birds.  


Stone Harbor Going Solar

The Borough of Stone Harbor will be taking bids to install the first of many solar panels on a municipal building.  The install will comprise up to 286 panels.  The solar panels will be installed on the roof of the municipal building.  Town officials hope the solar power will generate up to 60,000 kilowatts of electricity per year. 

Initial estimates place the cost of the installing solar powers on the roof of the 81st Street Public Works building between $300,000 and $400,000.  The Press reports the borough is receiving a $158,000 rebate from the state of New Jersey.  

Town officials hope the solar panels will pay for themselves in six to eight years.  The town is hoping with success to expand the program.  Some neighboring towns have already started the…

     Stone Harbor made Business Week's Small Towns with Big Money list.  Stone Harbor qualified for the list having a median home price of $968,209 according to Zillow.com.  According to the Business Week list, Stone Harbor has a year round population of 1,039 and a median income of $51,471. 

     Stone Harbor's population swells to around 20,000 during the summer.  Stone Harbor was able to qualify for the list since its year round population is below the survey's maximum of 10,000.  For many, it is no surprise Stone Harbor was able to make the list.
